A new multi-disciplinary team is being established to respond to and support people living in our Health Board who are experiencing an ongoing impact of Post Viral Syndromes, including Chronic Fatigue/ME and Long COVID, on their health & well-being. This is part of the wider Multi-Model Rehabilitation Service including Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Neuro-Rehabilitation. This Health Board wide team, incorporating Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Nutrition & Dietetics, together with an administrative support role, will work closely with local teams and partners to deliver an accessible, joined up and coordinated approach to rehabilitation for people experiencing the impact of Post Viral Syndromes.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join this multi-disciplinary team as part of our Physical Health Psychology department. This is a permanent position.

We are looking for a psychology graduate who is highly motivated, with excellent communication and empathy skills who can work independently and integrate into the health psychology department and other therapies services.

Under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist the successful applicant will undertake assessments, deliver individual interventions, undertake service evaluation activities, and support the training of health care professionals. A high level of computer literacy and service evaluation skills will be required to produce clinical reports, assist with development of systems, and evaluate the projects.

The role will involve some home working in addition to working across various sites within the region therefore the ability to travel and adopting a flexible working week is essential.

Applicants must have a recognised undergraduate degree in Psychology and have the Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society. Experience of working with clinical populations and being able to speak Welsh would be beneficial.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

To enhance and support the psychological care of clients of the clinical health psychology service, including the Post Viral Syndrome Service (PVSS) under the supervision of a qualified psychologist; including community work with GP practices, and ward clients if necessary.

The post holder will be required to conduct assessments including clinical assessments, psychological cognitive assessments and neuropsychological assessments.

The post holder will also be required to deliver psychological interventions according to a care plan and specific interventions with individuals and groups within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.

Non-clinical work would include assisting with administration, conducting audits, collecting data, statistical analysis, and the development of research projects, teaching and project work.

Participation on NHS initiatives and training to support continued professional development as required.
