Job Description

Summary and Purpose

As our Group Head of Technical and Quality Management, you will be a hands-on collaborative leader engaging with both our internal teams and external suppliers & customers. You will report directly to the Operations Manager of Apex Wiring Solutions and to the Managing Director of Artech Lighting. You will liaise with the wider business functions to support the delivery of both companies Technical and Quality KPI’s. You will have a team of Engineers and Technicians as well as Quality Engineers/Technicians who you will be expected to coach and develop.

Key Technical Responsibilities

  • Ensure Software utilisation best practice and controls are in place (CorelDraw 2D, Inventor, SolidWorks, CAD, Revit, SAP);
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the engineering teams on design, development, and troubleshooting of products and systems
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet quality, budget, and timeline requirements;
  • Responsible for creating effective departmental processes and controls in line with QMS;
  • Ensure that the Companies’ existing product portfolio is kept updated in respect of compliance with new and emerging standards, and such requirements as may arise when entering new markets;
  • Maintain a continuous improvement policy for the Companies’ existing product portfolio to improve quality, reliability, performance, value and yield,
  • Plan and drive New Product Development in accordance with the companies’ Quality System, and regulatory requirements, managing internal resources in an efficient and effective manner to meet time and project/product cost objectives;
  • Oversee Document and Change Management activities for Engineering matters;
  • Critically review and approve design documentation generated by the technical teams, challenging choices and pushing for more efficient and cost effective solutions;
  • Support resolution of technical issues pre-contract, during and post contract and effectively represent both companies with suppliers and clients;
  • Identify scope for improvement in current design processes and system development opportunities;
  • Oversee all aspects of the New Product Introduction process;
  • Travel to site as required to advice client on installation of company products or resolution of technical problems;
  • Work with the Sales team members to ensure that projects undertaken are commercially viable and will achieve expected outcomes for the customers.

Key Quality Management Responsibilities

  • Ensure that investigations and reports on failed/defective components/products are carried out in line with policies and procedures in a timely manner;
  • Manage customer feedback and complaints resolution processes by conducting root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions, ensuring that all the stakeholders are involved and informed, producing 8D reports and any other relevant documentation required;
  • Investigate and resolve supplier and internal non-conformities in a timely manner, producing 8D reports and any other relevant documentation required;
  • Prepare and/or complete any Quality documentation for clients/projects as per the requirements and in consultation with the sales and operations teams;
  • Create and maintain a Quality Audit Schedule to regularly conduct internal audits to ensure departmental processes and procedures are adhered to;
  • Responsible for analysing and reviewing results of daily shop floor audits and discuss corrective measures with the Manufacturing Manager;
  • Develop current key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and drive continuous improvement and excellence in every project from an engineering and quality perspective.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve quality, reduce defects, enhance operational efficiency whilst improving customer service.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing, H&S and Quality Compliance Manager (who will still be looking after all H&S aspects and Quality Compliance for ISO9001) to improve the current QMS and work towards IS045001 accreditations;
  • Work closely with Artech Quality team to improve the current QMS to maintain ISO9001 accreditation.
  • Drive Environmental improvements across the business, with the aim of introducing and implementing ISO 14001;

Skills & Experience

  • Proven track record of managing and delivering technical projects
  • Strong technical background and experience
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership or management position
  • Ideally, the Candidate will be experienced in managing and implementing Quality Management Systems and/or have some experience of working in a Quality Inspection role in a manufacturing or engineering environment

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Ideally, fully Electrically qualified and/or 18th Edition trained
  • Ideally, will have a Quality Assurance qualification from an accredited body ie CQI Certificate or demonstrable experience of working in a similar role and a NEBOSH or similar qualification.

Pay: £50,000.00-£60,000.00 per year
