Job Description

This vacancy is an exciting opportunity to support delivery of research activity across the South Yorkshire Regional Services (SYRS) care group working closely with investigators, their clinical teams as well as Research Coordinators. This role involves supporting the work of the Research Theme Leads and providing administrative and clinical support to the Cardiology, Renal and Vascular Academic Directorate research teams.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the SYRS Directorate Research Coordinators and the Principal Investigators to assist in increasing the research productivity, complete data entry and actively screen lists to increase the inclusion of potential participants into trials. The post holder will interact with patients to obtain clinical samples and perform clinical measurements (e.g. blood pressure, ECGs). The role will involve working closely with research and clinical teams to increase patient recruitment into clinical trials.

The post holder will also be required to maintain holistic support for all clinical trial participants, thus facilitating a high quality research service. The post holder will be expected to interact with patients and their families in relation to the requirements of the clinical trials and be able to work without supervision in some areas.

The post holder will assist in supporting a portfolio of clinical trials, from study set up to archiving, in accordance with clinical trial protocols, laboratory manuals and all relevant regulatory standards.

The role will involve collecting, recording and maintaining research data records, entering activity data and extracting information from databases, providing clinical and general administrative support to the research teams including performing clinical tests and investigations, processing and shipping samples and assisting with screening and recruitment processes. Clinical tasks will include, but not limited to, taking biological samples (blood, urine etc.), taking blood pressure and anthropomorphic assessments.

In addition, the post holder will have the responsibility of maintaining all clinical trial documentation according to regulatory, governance and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements.

The post holder will be expected to undertake study-specific training for each trial.

The Sheffield Kidney Institute provides a comprehensive renal service to the adult population of North Trent, comprising acute wards, outpatient facilities, on site and satellite dialysis units as well as a thriving renal transplantation programme.

The Sheffield Vascular Institute (SVI) is a specialist collaborative unit providing diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving blood vessels. The SVI has a national reputation and is one of the biggest Vascular Units in the UK.

The Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery Directorate provides cardiology, cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery services to the surrounding population of 1.5 million people. This directorate was one of the first to be nominated as an ‘academic directorate’ in the Trust, reflecting its pioneering research activities.
