The role has the responsibility to discover and define what transformation needs to occur, how it should be delivered and the optimal business value and outcomes that can be achieved. This will ensure that the transformation is set up for long-term success from the outset by thinking holistically and strategically.

What you’ll be doing

  • You will be working within the Business Transformation Discovery & Analysis team as an internal consultant, working across the breadth and depth of Business to help identify and define transformation initiatives.
  • You will carry out and/or lead discovery analysis to help refine existing transformation or define new transformation by providing the insight to determine where there are opportunities and how best to achieve them.
  • You will be responsible for working in a consultancy fashion, at a fast pace, to a high level of detail on large scale complex problems/opportunities, knowing when it is appropriate to delve into more detail.
  • You will be working in a complex environment, with many cross cutting projects and initiatives to produce clear, concise and well-structured recommendations and outcomes.
  • Working with a wide range of stakeholders and teams across Transformation, Business and BT Group you will deliver activities such as but not limited to; idea identification and scoping, financial and data analytics, problem solving, process mapping, benefit definition, KPI design, and mobilisation.
  • The role will require a high degree of autonomy, strategic thinking and flexibility of approach and mindset, as the scope of the role is broad.
  • You will help to foster a culture of excellence, empowerment and psychological safety within the transformation team, where behaviours such as supporting each other, knowledge sharing and confidence to fail fast and iterate are embedded.
  • You will be regularly engaging with, presenting to and working with senior stakeholders in support of your Discovery identification and mobilisation activities.

Skills and Experience


  • Transformation / consultancy skillset: You will have a background in transformation and/or consultancy roles, and the associated skillset.
  • Analytical mindset: Participate in solving complex problems and carrying out detailed analysis to identify trends and relevant insights. Analysis will be qualitative and quantitative in nature, however strong data, business and process analysis skills are a requirement. You will be able to effectively understand the as-is and to-be states and identify appropriate change or improvement opportunities.
  • Strategic thinking: Think holistically about the business strategy and outcomes to ensure clear alignment between investments and strategic business goals. You will be able to ‘join the dots’ between initiatives and recognise and mitigate risks as required.
  • Clarity of thought, communication and recommendations: While you will be exposed to highly complex work, you will be required to provide clarity of thinking, communication and recommendations - ‘bringing simplicity to complexity’.
  • Stakeholder management: You will collaborate with stakeholders from across the business, including senior stakeholders, as such the ability to build a professional rapport and relationships is essential.
  • Discovery of new ideas: You will have experience of delivering discovery work previously, including various different techniques and methodologies, and are able to effectively mobilise ideas into executable actions.
  • Flexible, inquisitive and curious nature: The nature of this role is such that it will vary regularly. This will require a flexibility in approach and mind-set and the ability to think dynamically.
  • Commercial acumen: You will be required to analyse and/or produce financial or commercial insights or business cases.
  • Autonomy: You will take ownership and act as a strategic partner to the transformation programmes, effectively understanding and enabling priorities and business outcomes.

Experience required

  • Proven experience in a transformation or consultancy management position, or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience and competence to meet skills and accountabilities as defined
