Job Description

About the Company
Bluestep was incorporated in 2010 with our warehouse based on Pastures Farm in Grendon, in the lovely Northamptonshire countryside. Our office is based at Blisworth Hill Farm. The business operates in design, merchandise, storage and fulfilment services providing varied solutions to a wide range of clients in the charity, healthcare, outdoor and education, corporate and sports sectors. We are a progressive, forward-thinking company that prides ourselves on a first class service.

Main purposes of job
The Warehouse Operative will play a crucial role in supporting the smooth operation of our warehouse environment. This position involves carrying out a wide range of tasks and responsibilities aimed at supporting both our Warehouse and Operations Managers to improve the efficiency and capacity of the warehouse function. We are seeking a practical, hard-working, logical team player to join the business and push this side of our offering forward.

Main responsibilities

Receiving and Inspecting Goods:

  • Accepting deliveries into the warehouse.
  • Inspecting them for damage or discrepancies (ensuring accurate counts and quality).
  • Verifying the contents against accompanying documentation.

Picking and Packing Orders:

  • Retrieving items from their storage locations.
  • Ensuring accurate quantities and items.
  • Preparing them for shipment.
  • Labelling and packaging items appropriately.
  • Ensuring the right stock gets to the right place at the right time.
  • Complying with any specific requirements within our fulfilment contracts.

We have commenced a large fulfilment contract so this specific responsibility will form a large part of this role.

Storing and Organising Stock:

  • Responsible for efficiently storing goods in designated locations within the warehouse.
  • May involve forklifts, pallet jacks or other equipment (you may be required to either have or undergo training for a Forklift Truck Licence once you have completed your probation period).

Loading and Unloading:

  • Responsible for wrapping pallets and loading goods onto trucks for shipments and unloading incoming deliveries.
  • This may involve operating forklifts or other heavy equipment.

Maintaining Stock Records:

  • Keeping accurate records of stock levels, including updating any stock systems in use to help in tracking stock levels and re-ordering when necessary.

Quality and Stock Control:

  • Inspecting goods for quality issues, such as damaged or expired items, and reporting any discrepancies.
  • Getting involved with stock takes as required for internal purposes or as part of client audits of consignment stock being held at the warehouse.

Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness:

  • Ensuring that the warehouse and office is clean, organised and safe is crucial for a smooth operation. This may involve regular cleaning tasks and ensuring that aisles and storage areas are clear of obstructions.
  • A keen awareness of Health and Safety along with high standards of warehouse hygiene.

Complying with Safety Regulations:

  • Must follow safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries. This may include wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), operating equipment safely and participating in safety training.

Collaborating with Team Members:

  • Working effectively with colleagues and respecting Managers is important for a cohesive and efficient warehouse operation.
  • Reporting and communicating any discrepancies, damages or issues with stock to management. This may also involve communicating with Account Managers to keep them up to speed on any issues that may need discussing with the client.

Adhering to Company Policies:

  • Following company policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety, security and operational protocols.

Physical Requirements:

  • This job often involves physical tasks, including lifting, carrying and more heavy items. Therefore, you should be physically fit and able to handle the demands of the job (some boxes can weigh up to 20kg).

Autonomy:

  • The Warehouse Manager and fellow Operative will have periods of absence for annual leave. We require a fast learner who will be able to run the warehouse during these times without much supervision.

The above list is not exhaustive and duties relevant to the post or the individual’s experience may be required from time to time. Variation may occur to the duties and responsibilities at the request of the Managing Director without changing the general character of the post. Any variation will always be discussed first.
